Capiz Tourist Spots

June 13, 2007

There are several beautiful places in Capiz, Philippines that you can visit for you to have your usual nature tripping and relaxation far from the noisy and polluted places of the city. I have pictures posted here which were taken by my friend using his 5megapixel digital camera. When you see these pictures you will really appreciate the goodness of God. The place is really blessed by God with different 'wow' sceneries that only in Capiz can be seen. I'm planning to take more pictures to other places in Capiz so the world can see the blessed beauty of the province of Capiz, Philippines

The following picture were taken from Basiao, Ivisan, Capiz. Just click the Photo Gallery, for the complete list of pictures.

Why a Capizeño….?

June 12, 2007

Why a Capizeño (people from Capiz, Philippines) when asked by a Manileño (people from Manila) or any one not from Visayas, where he or she come from, he answered Roxas City and not Capiz? Why would a Capizeño would not answer Capiz? Is that Capizeño is really ashamed of the place Capiz or he is simply avoiding that he might be teased and be called Aswang (mythical Filipino ghoul).

Some Capizeño's are proud of being linked to term 'Aswang' and they actually founded an Aswang Festival. I don't know if the organizers / founder of Aswang Festival are answering Capiz when asked if where they from. Hope so.  They making a noise of it and even the Catholic church was so disturbed about it.

Personally, I don't like the Aswang Festival, it's like your promoting a negative image of the province. Why would not promote more the products of Capiz so later, maybe soon the province will be known not of the negative image "Aswang" but a good image of being the sea food capital of the Philippines. Aswang Festival adds to the negative feeling for Capizeño not be comfortable of telling new acquaintances of where they really came from. I understand that Aswang Festival promoters just want to increase tourism for the province but I think there's more way of promoting tourism. Note: Boracay don't need aswang to increase tourism, Hundred Islands authorities protects their islands to increase tourism, they're not promoting 'negative images', Baguio summer capital of the Philippines and Capiz  = Aswang Festival. We have Sinadya sa Halaran and Diwal Festival, we don't need Aswang Festival! (maybe some Politicians or Profit-Oriented Organizations need it, maybe Dark Beings from Unknown ask for it hehehehe…Hope not!)

Independence Day Today!

It's Philippine Independence Day today and yet I don't know if there's any program in Roxas City Plaza because I have my  class today (1st day class) because of President GMA's order to make the day a working holiday. I want to shout "KALAYAAN!" (independence!).

President GMA is really fond of moving the dates of holidays to different day. It's practical because vacations are much longer than ever but it makes the holidays not holiday. Moving it to the other day making it not a holiday. Maybe later Christmas Day and New Years Day will be moved hehehehe…Hope it will be extended.
