Why a Capizeño (people from Capiz, Philippines) when asked by a Manileño (people from Manila) or any one not from Visayas, where he or she come from, he answered Roxas City and not Capiz? Why would a Capizeño would not answer Capiz? Is that Capizeño is really ashamed of the place Capiz or he is simply avoiding that he might be teased and be called Aswang (mythical Filipino ghoul).
Some Capizeño's are proud of being linked to term 'Aswang' and they actually founded an Aswang Festival. I don't know if the organizers / founder of Aswang Festival are answering Capiz when asked if where they from. Hope so. They making a noise of it and even the Catholic church was so disturbed about it.
Personally, I don't like the Aswang Festival, it's like your promoting a negative image of the province. Why would not promote more the products of Capiz so later, maybe soon the province will be known not of the negative image "Aswang" but a good image of being the sea food capital of the Philippines. Aswang Festival adds to the negative feeling for Capizeño not be comfortable of telling new acquaintances of where they really came from. I understand that Aswang Festival promoters just want to increase tourism for the province but I think there's more way of promoting tourism. Note: Boracay don't need aswang to increase tourism, Hundred Islands authorities protects their islands to increase tourism, they're not promoting 'negative images', Baguio summer capital of the Philippines and Capiz = Aswang Festival. We have Sinadya sa Halaran and Diwal Festival, we don't need Aswang Festival! (maybe some Politicians or Profit-Oriented Organizations need it, maybe Dark Beings from Unknown ask for it hehehehe…Hope not!)
This is a must seen site especially by the Capizeños. There is more to be explored in our place. Thank you for revealing the beauty of Capiz. I’m into photography. Please contact me through e-mall if you need my help.
Posted by Li Mei at July 29, 2007, 9:45 amBe cool, Capt. It’s only a myth. I’m a real capizeno, and I don’t give a dime to it. As capizeno, we all hear and knew about Duenas. But then again, who knew.
The festival’s name is unique and original. Capiz’s own.
Hay naku..pag masyado tayong defensive lalo lang tayong babansagan!! What’s wrong of Aswang Festival? Kaya nga mas maganda we make fun out of it na lang no?
Posted by mei at April 29, 2008, 10:55 ammei, don’t get me wrong if I will not agree with you. We’re not that being defensive. What’s wrong with Aswang Festival? Well, the festival itself is wrong. Bakit hindi kaya ang sea food ang ipromote natin hindi yung aswang, pwede namang festival na hindi aswang diba? That’s the problem with generations today they seem to see things differently. Akala nila basta masaya tama. Basta medyo parang “demonyo”, wow cool para sa kanila! Sabihin nating medyo “kill joy” ako but we can still enjoy a festival i.e. not aswang. Gaya nga ng sabi ko sa forum you just can’t make negative image to positive one. It’s not like mathematics integral computation (i.e. -1 times -1 is equals +1). For the information of everyone, wala ng aswang festival bcoz almost every Capizeño don’t like it. Opinyon ko lang.
Posted by capiz at April 30, 2008, 9:58 pmYeah, I get that a lot. most people would ask me where I am from in the Philippines, and I am proud to say I grew up in Dumalag, Capiz, and they go…” ah, di ba maraming aswang doon?”, I replied with a sarcastic smile, ” I wish! e di sana libre na pamasahe ko pauwi sa Pilipinas araw araw, or gabi gabi! some people are just plain ignorant. its a pity that even at this day in age, most people still ask that kind of stupid question. anyway, I am so used to it na. by the way Roxas city has a lot of improvements since I left back in the early 90s. pero mukang crowded na nga lang, pero over all, the Baybay area looks beautiful. and it is nice to see that meron nang SM, or at least malls, thats very convenient for everybody, diba? cant wait to visit again, peace, everyone

Whoever thought of the Aswang Festival is STUPID! He/she should burn in HELL!
When confronted with this stupid joke on Aswang, Capizenos should strike back at the instigator and say that he/she is showing his/her ignorance. Tell them that the real place of Aswangs is Duenas town in Iloilo province.
The people from Iloilo started this stupid rumors about Aswangs in Capiz to divert the attention away from Duenas some 50-60 years ago.
